The concept of spray tanning began in 1998 when Mike Ward imagined a concept of tanning human skin that was safe, fast and reliable. This was brought on by all the concerns and bad publicity associated with tanning in the sun or via the use of sun beds.

He was the first person to develop a HVLP (high velocity low pressure) spray concept which has now become the standard of the spray tanning industry today. He showed this concept to his business partner at the time, Mark Robson. They thought the idea could work. SunFX was born. They experimented for some time on the appropriate solutions necessary for optimal tanning results.

They then packaged up their first system and approached some local Beauty salons in Canberra, Australia, to gauge interest and feedback. Within the first day 2 salons had seen the same opportunity and signed up as SunFX salons. SunFX then were able to demonstrate their idea at the Australian Beauty Expo in Sydney and within 6 months SunFX had over 400 salons Australia wide

And as the business grew the company developed their own spray tanning systems which ultimately won the Australian Design Mark. SunFX began export of their product to Ireland, the UK, Europe, Asia, South America and the USA all within the first 12 months of business. And today SunFX America www.sunfxamerica.com has become the largest arm of the SunFX group of companies

SunFX were the first company in the World to develop this concept of tanning. Yes there have been almost endless attempts by others to copy our idea and product design. But, as the originators of this concept, we believe they have all fallen short.
